Eye care professionals specialize in understanding how the human eye really works, as well as diseases and conditions that affect your vision—many of which do not always have obvious symptoms. Our eye doctors in North Phoenix and Tempe, AZ know how age and risk factors affect vision over time for young and old, and they understand the benefits and features of corrective lenses, both as eyeglass lenses and contact lenses.
The optometrists in our optometry practices in Tempe and North Phoenix, AZ take the time to explain the results of your eye exam, describe your options and listen to your eye care needs. Because maintaining good eye health is an ongoing partnership, we encourage you to ask questions and share your health information, which could be vital to monitoring, diagnosing and treating potential vision problems.
Meet the Zmyslinski Eye & Contact Lens Center Team:
“There’s no place like home…” That could be the phrase to describe Dr. Simon Zmyslinski’s (“Dr. Z”) journey over the past two decades. Dr. Z grew up in Phoenix five miles from our office here in Metrocenter. Dr. Zmyslinski went to Sunnyslope High School right down the street. After receiving his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Arizona in 1993, he completed his Doctor of Optometry studies in 1997 from the SUNY State College of Optometry in New York.
“When I was ten years old, I was diagnosed as being nearsighted and started out wearing glasses in junior high school. This was not a pleasant experience because I was already a pretty gangly, goofy kid and when glasses were added to the mix it made me outright awkward,” Dr. Z shared. “Once I started high school my parents allowed me to get contact lenses and my world changed. As a reluctant occasional glasses wearer I didn’t realize how much my nearsightedness had progressed and once I was wearing contacts lenses regularly not only did my vision improve but my quality of life improved as well. From the moment I put them in I remember saying, ‘it’s a miracle I can see!’ This experience was one of the main driving forces behind my decision to enter the profession.”
Over the past ten years, Dr. Z has developed the Zmyslinski Eye & Contact Lens Center into one of the premier optometric practices in North Phoenix. We provide clinical care for issues like glaucoma, macular degeneration, conjunctivitis and diabetes. Zmyslinski Eye & Contact Lens Center has partnered with Lenscrafters to offer one of the largest and most fashion forward optical lines in the greater Phoenix area.
Dr. Z has also focused much of his practice time on contact lens care, given that the technology has now allowed so many more people to wear contacts than ever before. Dr. Z specializes in those “hard to fit” patients who may have had a poor experience with contacts in the past or may have been told that they could not wear contacts. Dr. Z invites you in for an examination and a fitting for one of the many contacts lenses now available.
When Dr. Zmyslinski is not in the office seeing patients, you can often find him outside hiking, biking or camping while enjoying Arizona’s diverse terrain. Dr. Z has been married to his wife Teresie for thirteen years and together they enjoy traveling and caring for their pets. You can book an appointment with Dr. Zmyslinski at our North Phoenix, AZ eye clinic or Tempe, AZ eye clinic.
Dr. Irene of Zmyslinski Eye & Contact Lens Center in Tempe, Arizona, grew up in Rochester, NY. At age 16, he had his first eye exam and was instantly drawn to the profession. Simultaneously, his first cousin became a contact lens sales rep for Bausch and Lomb and over the next few months talked to him in detail about a career as an Optometrist. His “fate” was now determined.
Upon completion of high school, Dr.Irene attended Indiana University in Bloomington. Dr. Irene was accepted and attended Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. Upon graduation in 1982, he moved to Denver, CO where he practiced for the next 9 yrs.
An opportunity presented itself in 1991 to practice in Phoenix. Being tired of the severe weather in Denver, Dr. Irene moved his family to Phoenix late that year.
Dr. Irene began his association with Lenscrafters in 1995 at Paradise Valley Mall. In 1997 he was given a second location at Arizona Mills Mall. In 2007 he sold the Paradise Valley Mall office and now directs his full attention to Arizona Mills.
Dr. Irene is a supporter of “Gift of sight” program to bring eye care and glasses to those in need. He is also a member of the American Optometric Association and the central Arizona Optometric Society.
When not seeing patients, Dr. Irene loves to stay in shape by hiking up “A” mountain. He is also an avid fisherman as the pictures on the waiting room wall show. His fondest wish is to see the Chicago Cubs win a world series. You can book an appointment with Dr. Irene at our North Phoenix, AZ eye clinic.
